Though people across the lifespan use hospice and palliative care, the need for such programs has grown as the population ages. This reality is now reflected in the increasing number of sessions addressing palliative and hospice care at ASA’s annual Aging in America conference. Yet, the term palliative is still widely misunderstood, and the many elements integral to providing quality palliative care are not always practiced.
