Is providing programming that challenges older adults to learn something new, to do something new and difficult, one way of providing spiritual care?
By Nancy Gordon
In the documentary Young@Heart, a choir of senior citizens, average age 80, is shown learning new songs as they prepare for their annual concert. They have been together for more than 25 years and when the choir began in 1982, all the participants were residents of a housing project for the elderly in Northampton, Mass. In 1996 they performed their show “Road to Heaven” in Rotterdam. It was the first of 12 tours to Europe, Australia and Canada.
